Sentinel Vision plans global expansion with Mondragón Group
Sentinel Vision, a technology company based in Guimarães that specialises in machine vision for industry, is entering a new and decisive chapter with an international focus.
The Portuguese company has been partially acquired by Mondragón, a Basque group and one of Spain’s largest industrial and cooperative conglomerates. With this acquisition, Mondragón strengthens its presence in the industrial machine vision sector.
Joel Alves, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), says that joining a larger group is a crucial step in its international expansion, as it gives the company access to new markets and more demanding customers.
What started as a simple contact quickly evolved into an opportunity for global recognition of a highly competitive Portuguese technological solution.
Sentinel Vision has established itself as a leading developer of machine vision systems, combining hardware e software, to enable real-time monitoring of various products on production lines. This technology can detect defects, enhance quality control and optimise industrial processes, and these advantages have already convinced companies such as Continental, Simoldes and Navigator, to name but a few.
It was precisely this technological maturity that attracted the interest of the Mondragón group, who saw the Portuguese solution as a way to accelerate their commitment to smart automation on the factory floor. Now that the operation is complete, Sentinel Vision is preparing for a new phase of growth.
Its operational headquarters will be located in Rubí, Barcelona, positioning the company closer to major European industrial hubs. However, the technology centre will remain in Portugal to ensure that product development, services and innovation continue to be driven from Guimarães. All of the local team will be integrated into the new structure to ensure continuity and stability, as well as preserving national talent.
The Portuguese tech company has set itself ambitious goals for the coming years: it expects to accelerate its growth rate and reach revenues of between 8 and 10 million euros. It is also preparing to enter international markets such as France, Germany and Mexico. Integrating into the Mondragón group is a strategic step towards consolidating Sentinel Vision’s position within the European Industry 4.0 landscape. This will enable the company to increase its development capacity and scale up the application of its technology.
